Introductory Course

A series of seven two-hour trainings in the basic understanding of behavioral concepts.

These trainings are mandatory for HCAR employees (no fee)


Anyone else supporting adults with developmental disabilities is welcome
to attend any or all trainings.

Cost is $20.00 per person per training

How to recognize, define and measure behavior. What is a behavior and who has them?
 
Good job, Bob! – Behavior reinforcement
Reinforcement and punishment. How to tell the difference and when to use or not to use them - positive and negative reinforcement, type I and type II punishment, extinction.
 
And just how do I do that? – Basic instructional processes
Methods to teach basic skills and replacement behaviors - Prompting hierarchy, chaining, shaping, discrete trial.
 
O.K., that didn’t work. What do we do now? – Principles of behavior management
Interim behavior management strategies to try while you are waiting for a treatment plan to take effect.
 
No job is finished until the paperwork is done – Data collection
Methods for assessing and tracking behaviors and skills.
 
Are you sure we should be doing this? – Ethical issues
Understanding confidentiality and informed consent
 
Understanding the elements of a treatment plan – individual service plans and behavior support plans

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for attending and passing the accompanying written test for each training (open book tests – no stress!)
