Everyone one needs a break from time to time, but finding someone who is qualified to take care of their loved one can be difficult. HCAR's Respite Services can make a difference.

Types of Services currently offered:
In-Home Respite
Behavior Respite (Program Support)
Private-Pay Respite
On-Call/Short Term


In-Home Respite:
Provides Services for Infants through Adults in their home or in the community.


Behavior Respite
(Program Support):

Provides Positive Behavior Reinforcement for Individuals needing support in their home or in the community.


On Call/Short Term:
Provides care giver duties and End-of-Life Support


Who privides respite?
Respite care providers are specially screened and trained to work in Respite Services.









Screening requirements:
*TB Clearance
*Background Check
*Fingerprint Clearance


Respite Worker Requirements:
*Orientation
*Quarterly inservice
*CPR & First Aid Certifications
*On going training as needed
*Professional Assault Response Training (Pro-ACT)
*Behavior Analysis Skills Introductory Course Training (BASIC)


Location, Days, & Hours of Service:

HCAR Respite Services provides: respite throughout Humboldt County up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (depending on the needs of the family, and the availability of the respite workers).

*Families using HCAR's services may call the office between the hours of 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

*Respite Services are not to be provided until: a Purchase of Services for the consumer has been received and all necessary paperwork has been completed.
